It's been a while...

Today I had some time to reflect on some "what ifs".  You know those experiences you have that ended in an unexpected way.  You ocassionally let yourself go there, and think about what might have  been.  Without going into much detail, I can say that I went to help an old friend, which ended up with us going out to dinner.  It was fun to catch up!  He's so fun to talk to, and I laughed a lot!  At the same time, I kept thinking back to how it was in the past, how I felt about things then and how I felt about them now.  I found myself grateful for the experience, and so grateful for where I am now.  I was able to say some things, that I would've been nervous to say back in the day.  My ''what ifs" were answered.
After that I had the chance to somewhat mend a friendship that had ended recently.  I've been feeling bad for the way I handled things, and had some courage to go up and just chat.  It felt really great!
I've been praying a lot for certain things in my life.  I have always been so grateful for the power of prayer.  I've seen so many answers to prayers in so many lives.  I've seen it in my callings.  I can't tell you how many times answers came when I was leading the MidSingles.  I've seen it in matters of health, family, friends, etc.  This last fall, I had an amazing experience with prayer.  I was searching for a new job, I checked KSL jobs daily!  I felt so held back by being at Home Depot.  The hours were ridiculous, and things just were not good!  As I told my boss on my last day, I have never worked somewhere with such low morale and low morals.  I saw this job for cabinet designer, and applied.  I found another Interior Design position, and applied there, as well.  They both called me, and scheduled interviews for the same day.  My prayers were that I would be able to get one of these jobs, and that even if they weren't going to be a job that would last for a long time, that I would be able to get out of Home Depot.  I went to my first interview in Brigham City, and as I walked in, was greeted by the owner with this welcome that sounded just like what I had every week when I went to the MidSingles religion class by Bro. Grant.  I immediately felt at home.  We talked, I got a tour, I met his wife, and a couple hours later, I left Brigham and headed to the other interview (which I was late for:)).  I got there, looked around, and waited and waited and waited.  The lady came down, and in her first two minutes, she informed me that they were very crude, and if I didn't enjoy that, then that was not the place for me.  I had already decided during my drive to Murray that I wanted the job in Brigham, I just knew.
Somehow my entire schedule opened up, and I had so much free time!  It was driving me insane!  I wanted to hear about this job so badly, and I wasn't.  I spent so much time on my knees.  Nearly every waking moment there was some thought about if/when I would hear, and oh, how I hoped that they would feel as strongly about me, as I felt about them.  I spent a lot of time in the temple, I mean a LOT of time!  The temple is where I go to find peace.  While I'm there, the worries and stress of the world leaves, and I feel rejuvenated, knowing I'll be okay in whatever is stressing me at the time.  One stress was that I was supposed to go to Atlanta for a week of training for Home Depot.  I did not want to go!  I don't know what the stress was, and why I wasn't supposed to go there, but for a few months, I knew I was not supposed to go.  Randy called me, and told me the next step in the interview process, and I told him I was going to Atlanta for training in five days.  He called me later that night, and offered me the job.
I am a project manager at Anvil Cabinets & Mill.  I work out of Salt Lake.  I get to design kitchens and anything else you can imagine that uses cabinets.  I love it!  I love what I do, and I love the people I work for!  I've never worked at such a happy place.  I'm so blessed to have this!  The biggest blessing that came from this process, was that my faith grew immensely!  I'm so thankful for a loving Heavenly Father!

When I Grow Up...

As a little girl, I dreamed of one day being a heart doctor.  That was the plan of seven year old Pyper.  Then I realized, science and I don't mix well, neither does math! Cardiology was not the path for me :-)  I went through lots of dreams and wishes.

When I graduated from high school I was going to be a high school choir teacher. Things changed, and I eventually received my degree in interior design. This was a major decision that took a lot of praying and pondering. It was a decision that I knew was correct. I've had a lot of great experiences with it, and it certainly fit "the plan". The plan just hasn't happened the way I planned.

At Snowbird, this year, I was on a walk with one of my good friends. He asked me if I regretted that decision, because he knew of my unhappiness in my current job. I knew it was right when I made the decision. He said that maybe it was right for then, but maybe not anymore. I thought about that for a LONG time. I did have other interests that kept coming to mind. I needed a game plan!

I pondered and researched, and came up with a few ideas of what my next move would be. Through this pondering, I checked the job classifieds every day.

I came up with a list of what I wanted to do next:

1. Get my real estate license.

2. Become an institute or seminary teacher for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

3. Blog for Time Out for Women or something like that. I would love to have the opportunity to share/speak with MidSingles all over the place. I'd love to spread positivity. How to get involved with that? NO idea!

All the while still checking classifieds, I found a couple jobs to apply for. Both called or emailed me, and set up interviews for the same day. I left one so certain I wanted it, it's all I could think about! I get to start in the next week! I'm so excited!

So, my list will have to wait. I'm excited for this new opportunity!

Travel and delays :)

Have you ever read this?  I've read it before.  I've seen it on one of my friends Facebook pages.  She is the mother of some special needs children, and reading it, I could totally understand the analogy.  I read it a long time ago!

Today I was out to lunch with a friend, and she related it to singles or mid-singles.  Every little girl grows up planning her wedding and what kind of wife she is going to be, and how many kids she's going to have.  She knows their names, the order of their birth, the things that they're going to do, etc.  Like in the link, the little girl is  planning on being in Italy by the time she is 20, at least in our LDS culture.  She's going to do all she's supposed to growing up, and then things will fall into place the way she's pictured her whole 20 years.

Sometimes you're on a trip, and you have a delayed flight, and your plans vary from the original plan.  My friend's husband is a pilot, and they get to fly all over the world.  They had a layover in New Delhi, and were stuck there for three days.  It messed up their lives for those three days!  They missed work, they had commitments that had to wait, they were just there.  They could've sat around the airport waiting, stressing and getting upset over things that were totally out of their control.  Instead they decided to take the opportunity to go out and see all of the amazing things they would miss out on, if they stayed in the airport.

None of us that are in this state of Mid-Single-ness would have chosen this layover.  Whether it's someone that has never been married or someone whose marriage ended, this is not the way we planned.  I remember attending an Evening of Excellence in our stake, as a leader, and the speaker said, "I graduated from seminary, I earned my young women medallion, and because I did things the right way I was blessed with my wonderful husband.  If you do these things, you'll be blessed in the same way."  I wanted to stand up and protest!  "I did those things! Don't make things sound like this is how it always happens!"  One day one of those young women will not have the fairytale ending at 20, and have to sit and wonder what she did wrong or what's wrong with her.

So, on my trip to Italy, I've had a layover in Spain.  Instead of sitting in the airport waiting for my connecting flight to Italy, I've stepped outside of the airport and been able to meet some amazing people, learn lots of amazing things, and see the beauties that are there. Of course, I am still anxiously awaiting my flight to Italy, but I'm enjoying my time in Spain!
